Breastfeeding | Chestfeeding Support Boston Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) Services

My goal as a Lactation Consultant is to help you reach your goals. I will help you incorporate any kind of feeding type that is best for your family, while addressing any concerns or barriers to a positive feeding relationship.

I will submit your bill to insurance through a billing service or supply you with a super bill if you prefer. Most insurances do cover IBCLCs, even out of network. 

These visits include:

• Reviewing pertinent medical histories of you and baby.
• Addressing your concerns, questions, and goals for the visit and future breast/chestfeeding relationship
• Possible breast/ chest exam.Weighing the baby before and after a feed
• Assessing the latch and feeding position (including suggestions for improvement)
• Assessing the baby's oral anatomy and any ties or restrictions.
• Anticipatory education for the next stage of feeding.
• Developing a care plan together, including written suggestions and videos. This may included follow up with me and/or another provider.

Please fill out the intake form that will be sent to your email. In order to get the best assessment of intake, it's helpful if you haven't fed the baby for 2 hours prior to my arrival. If that baby is hungry earlier, please text, sometime I can come a little early, or give a small feed. I love animals, but if a dog may be very high energy and distract during the visit, you may want to consider another location in the house for them.

Yes. While I aim to fit in my lactation work between 9-5 Monday - Friday, I often make exceptions. There are some nursing issues that require more urgency (a baby at or approaching 10% weight loss, mastitis and plugged ducts, low diaper output).

Occasionally I have to reschedule and appointment for the rare birth client, in which case I will make every effort to reschedule within 48 hours.

Not everyone who is feeding their baby human milk from their body will use the terms "breast" or "breastfeeding". Many people, especially those who are nonbinary/transgendered, would prefer to use the term "chest" or "chest feeding" to describe the nature of their feeding relationship. At Nightingale Midwifery, we encourage you to use whatever terms are right for you.

Absolutely! Caring for a baby is a team sport and it's important that anyone you feel comfortable with be able to join you. While the feeding parent/parents are the center of the visit, I welcome questions or input from anyone who will be around you and your baby.
